A Grand Slalom of sweepers invites you to enjoy an
off-season run up the slopes of Tod Mountain. Re-christened Sun Peaks
Resort, this alpine ski village aimed at the Japanese market works hard to
justify its grandiloquent name. While the asphalt on the sweepier lower
three quarters is sometimes bumpy and interrupted by cattleguards, you can
really roll it on through the steady curves. That is, as long as you’re
not too freaked out by the eclipsed sightlines. On the upper quarter,
four-star pavement switches back and forth on the way to the village’s
three-star restaurants and accommodation. Climbing in a series of steep,
tight, but well-engineered corners, this smooth final section makes for a
great finish. We have little doubt Sun Peaks’ Asian marketing strategy
will be a grand success… especially among Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis and
Yamahas.
