We’re not sure how many members of the strictly
religious Doukhobor community ride motorcycles. It’s hard to envision
someone who makes their own clothing and tools knocking off early and
attempting a new personal best on his V-Max. Still, for the reformed among
them, there is a perfectly respectable biking road passing by their quaint
houses and farms. Starting in the pale green mountains surrounding Midway,
this DH rolls through the grassy hills and rock cuts of the shallow Boundary
Creek valley to historic Greenwood. It then stretches skyward, to the modest
heights of the Elhot Summit, before steadily coasting down a ridge through
the Sunshine Valley to Grand Forks. Although this highway has the occasional
congregation of curves, and even an S or two on the way up to the summit,
the ultra-orthodox road construction may seem frustratingly straight at
times. If it does, just grab a handful of salvation and heat up the Quaker
State.
